How to charm a bear ?
Does anyone know what a proper way to do this ?
in Pre-searing charming a bear.
I've tried it with a partymember as tank but the break charm skill the bear uses is ranged.

I always knew it was possible... but never kew how. Never understood how hostile "red" creatures could be charmed. All the other pets, including the shiverpeak bears, have names that appear in green. So I guess all I can do is wonder along with the previous 2 posters.

Make it to the Southern Shiverpeaks. :
Seriously, if you want it in Pre-Searing, you'll have to pretty much rely on every knock-down skill possible. Since you won't have distracting shot, you can't do it. I think the only warrior skill that's possible is ....oh, I forget what it's called. It's a hammer skill, that much I know. You can also use a bane signet, but after all of this you'll probably end up killing the thing before you can get it charmed.
Other than that, you'll probably have to find one in the Southern Shiverpeaks. They're a dime a dozen down there.

I was thinking, I'm a Monk/Ranger myself still pre searing.
What if you go out with another ranger, with either a warrior or monk profession with it.
you gain a little extra time when he uses the mauling attack.
- other ranger tanks
- you both use charm animal the other player a bit earlier than you
- bear mauls the other ranger
- then the bear will (hopefully) break the other player's charm
- the other ranger uses a knockdown skill
and you hope it's enough time for you to have finished charming.
Mesmers could use fast casting.. dont'know if it affects charm but oh well.
I think I'll try this with someone who's willing lol.

As far as I know, the pre-searing bear's break charm skill breaks all charm attempts that are currently being used on it. So you could have ten rangers or a hundred rangers all casting break charm and the bear would break them all at once.
To catch a bear I think powering down the governing attributes of your knockdown spells so that they are dealing as little damage as possible is the best way to attempt it, but it's gotta be done right. It's been done before, so it's possible.

The problem is the Break charm skill the bear uses is from every range so it's no use. if he's slowed he can still break it from whatever distance he is at.

Run a search, I know I've seen it posted before. But I'm not really in the mood to skim through the topics for you. Stupid Migraine >.< I've run through Ring of Fire so much and the boss won't spawn for me
Anyway, back on topic, it's feasible. You need Faintheartedness cast on the bear to slow his attacks, to interrupt Brutal Mauling with Bane Signet, and then to chain knockdowns following that using the hammer warrior apparently. Never tried it myself, and that's all I can remember from one of the previous topics.
The information is there for those who seek it however.

This is my idea, I've never tried it so I don't know if it works. Have one person cast Pacifism on the bear and then have the other try and charm it. I'm not sure if Pacifism stops the bear's charm break or whether trying to charm it will nullify Pacifism, but it's worth a shot.

You CANNOT charm bears in pre searing anymore, its been patched quite some time ago, I do wish people would stop spreading this misinformation that it can be done.

This just saved me 40 minutes of trying things with my new character tonight. Hmmm. I've got a wolf (damn cry is annoying) and a cat (very cool), so maybe that Spider I saw will replace the bear I was wanting.
